Born in 1957, Barry Ost grew up in an era where the American influence to Germany was at it's peak. His formative musical years took place in the southern part of Germany where he played the clubs with all kinds of bands performing everything from James Brown to ZZ-Top. As he was learning his instrument, Barry was influenced by Jimmy Page, Ritchie Blackmore, Eric Clapton and the great blues guitarists Albert King and BB King.

Even though Barry Ost claims to be more of a blues-rock player, it was the influence of Lee Ritenour and Larry Carlton that led him to the style that he is playing and composing now.

Barry finished education, then moved around Germany. He played and recorded with piano player Paul Amourade and Band, with Black Music Band 'Fresh', New Orleans native Helt Oncale and "Players", and a long years stint with several Cover Bands. He has toured extensively in Germany and Europe. Was invited playing music in Canada and the US.

Barry Ost formed the band Free Energy in 2005 with bassplayer Bernd Renn and drummer Patrick Anderson.

The second album for 51° North Records pairs Barry Ost with caribian blooded pianist Gregory Gaynair and will be recorded in summer 2012.

As is often the case with a musician, the demand is great that he shares his knowledge with the current generation of guitarists. He is now teaching at - Rhythm Matters - music school in Krefeld.
